I'm beginning to wonder if they really feed him at this place or not? Today after him I picked him up, he ate dinner twice and had a snack before bedtime! He does come home everyday with a chart of what he ate: no breakfast, some of his lunch (chicken patty, yellow rice, and pineapple chunks), and all of his afternoon snack (animal crackers and apple juice). Somehow though, he has still come home starving and thirsty all three days so far. Maybe the problem here is that I was just feeding him too much before, but if he's going to be a football player, we have to make him big! Maybe I should make "the academy" aware of my athletic plans for Noah so they will feed him more!
I didn't have to go through the trauma of dropping him off this morning, I let my husband have that honor today! From what I hear, it didn't go much better than yesterday. He's still not so happy that we're abandoning him with strangers every morning, this should scar him for life! I know that everyone says he will never remember, but I can tell you first hand that that's a bunch of bull! I remember like it was yesterday when my mom would drop me off at daycare.....I screamed, clung onto her legs, and then when she would finally break loose from me, I would hide under a chair for an hour! SCARED FOR LIFE!
I was one of the last parent's to pick up my child today, so all of the age groups were in a room playing together. Once again, all of the children were playing so nice, and Noah was being held by the teacher while he pointed at things around the room, such a social butterfly! They were quick to pass him off to me so that they could continue to pick up after a long day so there was very little dialog about his day from his teacher. I did however receive the official report:
Mood: okay.....(I can't wait till this changes to happy!)
1 dry diaper
3 wet diapers
no poopy diapers......(he's got to go sooner or later)
and a short and simple paragraph that read: we made apple prints today (dunked apple halves into paint and stamped them onto paper)
I'm sending him to day four with a backpack full of snacks and juice!

Day 2.....Adjusting?
Ok, so the drop off wasn't quite as smooth today as it was yesterday. From the second we pulled into the parking lot, he was looking at me with those, "I know what you're going to do to me" eyes! He clung onto my shirt and his teacher had to pull him off of me while he was screaming, "Mama, Mama" at the top of his lungs....ugggg....so sad! But we both survived and I headed home for a "productive day cleaning".
I literally haven't had a day to myself since Noah was born 15 months ago, so I was super excited to be free on my day off to do anything that I wanted to do: paint my toe's, take a bath, clean the kitchen, etc....you name it, it was on my list for today! Do you know what I did all day.....WATCHED THE DAMN SECURITY CAMERA OF NOAH AT DAYCARE, no bath, no cleaning, and no toe painting, (what is wrong with me?) When we were first introduced to this feature I thought it was amazing....wrong.....it's an evil way to torture nervous parents. I need to figure out how to block the website so I can't see it anymore! It was neat to see how he interacted, or rather didn't interact, with everyone else though. While all of the other toddlers played with the toys on their own, Noah did nothing but follow his teacher around like a little puppy! If she got up, Noah got up, if she walked across the room, so did my little man. I think I need to set up some more play-dates for him!
Picking him up wasn't quite the grand, "oh I missed you so much today mommy" reunion I had imagined either. I skipped excitedly into the room where he was playing and envisioned him running up to me and giving me a big hug. Instead, he looked at me turned in the other direction and continued to play with a plastic lion, (he did eventually bring the lion to me as a peace offering after crushing my vision)! His teacher said we was fussy on and off but displayed normal behavior for the first few days at the "academy", and then handed me his second masterpiece, a drawing of what was supossed to be the number 1, he's so talented!. The official report for the day read:
Mood: Okay
2 wet diapers
no poopy diapers....(adjusting to his new environment I guess!!)
1 two hour nap....once again on the cot!
and a paragraph that read: made hand prints (with paint) and traced the number one, please check my folder to see my artwork! (so cute)
Onto day 3!

Gulp.....Day One! 8/23/2010
My husband had today off, so we thought it would be a good trial run for the first day. Dropping Noah off at the "academy" would allow him to clean the house and work out, while still being ready at a moments notice to swoop in should any problems occur, perfect! We packed him all of his required items, diapers, a sippy cup, and extra set of clothes, a comfort item, ( his Curious George stuffed monkey), and a crib sheet and blanket, just incase they were able to force him onto a cot! We we're off!
Noah didn't even care that we were leaving him with strangers! Such a little trooper! The toddlers were all outside when we arrived to drop him off, so we walked him out to meet his "teacher" and his "classmates", (are you kidding me). Naturally, my husband and I looked around and eyeballed the other kids that were in his classroom, mostly clean and minimal runny noses, score! Atleast he won't be coming home sick on the first day! Noah, of course, cared nothing about how the other kids looked and immediately demanded to put down and ran to the slide, he never looked back.....gulp...! Before we left they gave us a password to be able to access the security camera system they use from home so we could watch him throughout the day. What?!?! Needless to say, all of the wonderful plans that my husband had for cleaning and working out were canceled, and he instead spent the better part of 6 hours watching the little man on a computer screen from home!
When we picked Noah up, his teacher handed us a folder that had his lesson plans for the week in it and a picture of his first ever art work, a masterpiece of several squiggly "x" marks drawn with a purple crayon! It's hanging on our fridge! The folder also had a check sheet of things that he had done throughout the day, the "official report" read:
Mood today: Okay
3 wet diapers
1 poopy diaper ( go little man!)
2 naps....... on the cot.......WHOA!!!!!!!
and a paragraph that said, "Noah had a pretty good first day. He is still adjusting to his new friends and teacher".
Overall a good day, we'll see how day two goes.....

Choosing the "Academy"
Let me start by saying that being 28 years old, it's been a while since I've been to daycare, but apparently there have been some changes. Lesson number one, it is no longer referred to as "daycare", my 15 month old child is attending a "learning academy". Lesson number two, he will follow a "structured" daily and weekly lesson plan that teaches him colors, numbers, sign language and Spanish, (seriously?). Lesson number three, 15 months is the new 25! This kid is going to be smarter than me and all of my friends combined by the time he's 2! Anyway, we're excited to be sending him to such a great "academy", and can't wait to watch how well he develops!
During our first visit to the "academy", we we're buzzed into the key-code locked front door, (nice, my child's attending a prison for tiny tots), and shown into a colorful lobby area. Above the front desk was a large flat screen TV displaying several different camera views of the classrooms throughout the "academy", (ok, so it's a high-tech prison for tiny tots), but safe non the less! The tour was impressive, each age group has their own learning area, or "classroom", and all of the toys and learning materials were up-to-date and clean. It happened to be nap time during our tour so we got to peek into the "napping room". Inside the lights were dim, there was soft music playing, and all of the toddlers were so sweetly lined up on their own little cots just sleeping away. It should have been comforting, but it threw me into a state of panic, the only thing I could think was, "Yeah right lady, if you think your going to get my child to lay on a little cot and go to sleep, your crazy"! I suddenly got visions of him tromping through all of the sleeping children, tearing all of their little blankys off, and running like a wild man around the room, ahhhh! In the end however, the tour was impressive, it seemed to have everything that we were looking for, and after agreeing to pay what seems like one years salary to enroll him, we signed him up! I Guess we'll see how day one goes!
